The basic dance element space is made up of many sub-elements, which we must consider whenever we create, watch, or evaluate a dance.  The first of these sub-elements is level.   The dancer’s body has a certain relationship to the space from the floor to the top of the visible performance space (e.g. the stage).  Levels range from grounded and rooted (crawling, sitting, kneeling, crouching—anything below a slight knee bend;  through the middle range (from slightly bent knees to rising up onto tiptoes); to high level which includes jumps and leaps and the high overhead lifts………..

Text Box: This interactive Lecture-Demonstration illustrates dance’s basic components:  space, time, and energy.  Each of the components is explained an explored through a number of simple fun activities.  These activities are then further demonstrated through video-/performance examples and especially selected to illustrate core curriculum concepts.  This is an enjoyable, educational and enriching program tailor-made for students and all those who wish to know more about this most exciting art form.
