Music History Degrees

Degrees in Music History and Literature at the University of Louisville


The University of Louisville School of Music awards two degrees with a specialization in music history: the B.M. and the M.M.

The B.M. with Emphasis in Music History requires 18 hours in music history, including a senior thesis, written under the guidance of one of the music history faculty members.

For the M.M. in Music History and Literature, students complete 36 hours of course work, including seminars in music history, music theory and other elective courses including ensembles. Requirements include a thesis, proficiency in German or French established through examination, oral defense of thesis and graduate oral.
