Gifts that Keep on Giving

Endowment funds are a creative and thoughtful way to support and enhance the future of the University of Louisville. Some people want to make a lasting impact on the world, while others choose to memorialize or pay tribute to someone special. Others, particularly alumni, choose to satisfy a feeling of gratitude toward their alma mater. Regardless of the reason, an endowment is the perfect way to create a lasting legacy and enhance the future of the School of Music.

So how does it work? Let’s say you are interested in creating a $25,000 scholarship endowment. With the university’s current spending policy, that endowment could generate a scholarship of about $1,375 for the first year. Any appreciation of your endowment above spending distribution remains with it, increasing the value over time and growing the annual amount of your scholarship awards.

With a minimum gift of $10,000, you may establish your own named endowment to benefit a scholarship, academic department, research area, or other UofL priority that is meaningful to you. Endowed professorships begin at $500,000.

Creating the right endowment is a big decision. To discuss your options, please call the School of Music’s director of development, Justin Dwyer Leighty. He can be reached at 502-852-0516 or by email .
