Graduate Student Admissions Checklist

In order to be admitted to the University of Louisville School of Music, prospective graduate students must meet the School of Music admission requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Music (or the equivalent) 

  • Minimum GPA of 2.75 from previous undergraduate and graduate work

  • Audition/portfolio and interview

    Music Performance or Education – audition 
    Music Theory/Composition – portfolio of work 
    Music History – portfolio of writing samples

 

Submit the following documentation to the Main Office of Admissions:

 

  • Completed application for admission, including the $60 application fee (there is a $30 application for additional applications and applicants applying for re-admission to UofL). There is no additional application for admission into the School of Music.

  • Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended 

  • Two (2) letters of recommendation (the online letter evaluation will suffice) 

  • Official scores from the general aptitude sections of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE). There is no minimum score required.

     

Submit the following documentation to the School of Music Admissions:

  • A Letter of Interest for Graduate Teaching Assistantships or Departmental Service Awards. The School of Music bases awards on several factors including musical talent, academic achievement, priorities in instrumentation, and financial need.


It is strongly recommended that all materials be submitted prior to your audition.  All of the above MUST be submitted before the School of Music can admit a student or make a scholarship offer.
