Faculty Meeting Date Change
Please note on your calendars that the January faculty meeting must be bumped to January 22. The original date, January 15, conflicts with that CMS summit on music entrepreneurship that the dean and others will be attending in Nashville.
President & Provost Visit

Music Library Carpet Installation
Installation of carpet in the Music Library begins on Monday. Workers will be in the library from opening until 3pm, Monday-Friday until the work is complete. We expect the disruption to be minimal -- limited to just a portion of the library at a time -- and short-lived and we anticipate providing our nearly full range of services throughout the process. -Karen Little
Campus Traffic Petition
If you have been concerned or affected by the frustrating traffic congestion on Cardinal at the North End exit, please consider signing the Petition Signature Form located on Nitra's desk. Anyone may sign (employees, students, visitors); you don't have to be an employee who parks on campus. Forms must be turned in by the end of the day next Wednesday, Nov. 4th, so please sign quickly if you are so inclined. Thanks for your support. Read the Petition Cover Letter.

A reminder to faculty. . . that program information for concerts and recitals is required THREE WEEKS in advance of the event in order to prepare media contacts with details of the event, as well as develop, proof, and print the programs. Staff responsible for creating the programs will be accommodating in preparing program materials to the extent possible, but the situation has reached a point where the three week requirement has been widely disregarded. In order to ensure that we can fully support the public events programming, faculty members are reminded to observe the publications policy guidelines. -Chris Doane

Continuity of Instruction Planning
Don't forget that the Provost expects all faculty to make plans for interruptions in course delivery due to potential high absenteeism or university closure. Her initial three-week time-line is now just about upon us. View the comprehensive new document from the Delphi Center also posted on the resources page. For your current planning the first 2-3 pages will be most helpful. The dean will have to give a progress report for our unit soon, so by the middle of next week at the latest every faculty member should have discussed their contingency plans with their Division Head. Here again are notes from the Sept. 18 faculty meeting on the subject.
Instructional Continuity Planning
Think about how you would continue your classroom and lesson responsibilities if an emergency should shut down the university due to flu or serious weather conditions. Faculty should start taking these steps now and over the next two to three weeks:
- Survey students to determine what computer and network access they have right now. Based on that, decide how you and your students will stay in touch.
- Review the tools you have thru the Blackboard course shell, Tegrity software, etc. Help is available from Delphi Center staff.
- Communicate your preliminary plans to your division head and prepare a communication plan for your students.
Different Plan for KMEA
On Thursday, February 4th, instead of hosting the traditional 5-6pm alumni reception at KMEA, we will offer all conference participants an open breakfast bar that morning from 7:30-9:30am on the mezzanine level of the KY International Convention Center, just above the main KMEA registration tables. With this event included in the official program, hopefully it will draw lots of teachers from around the state. We also hope our faculty will have a robust presence there to help greet and talk to folks about the SoMusic. Toni Robinson will be in charge of our booth throughout the conference, February 3-6. More reminders closer to the date.
Meet our 2009 Alumni Fellow
Music Faculty & Jazz Students are invited to meet & greet PAT HARBISON, 2009 School of Music Alumni Fellow, next Friday, October 9 from 9-10am in the Green Room. View invitation. (Pat Harbison, BME 1977, http://info.music.indiana.edu/sb/page/normal/864.html)
