How to email students
In this interim period after students have switched to CardMail and the rest of us are still on GroupWise til fall, there is a way to obtain student email addresses. You will need to use the LDAP address book, which should appear as the second choice in the address books in GroupWise. However, if you don’t see LDAP as a choice, you will need to download it from the IT Store: http://louisville.edu/it/. Click on ITech Xpress, then “log in to online store”. Under Categories on left-hand side, click Free near the bottom, then LDAP Address Book, then download.

Week of April 8, 2011

HOLD THE DATE:   Monday, September 26, 2011 - UofL CELEBRATION OF THE ARTS CONCERT at the Luther F. Carson Four Rivers Center in Paducah, in collaboration with A&S students and faculty. Regional school visits will be part of the trip.

Shannon Bowles has been elected as the 1st Vice President of the Southeastern Region of the American Music Therapy Association.  She will serve in this position for two years. Congratulations!

Barbara Wheeler presented a lecture to students at the University of Applied Sciences of Wuerzburg and Schweinfurt, Germany. The title of the presentation was "Introduction to Special Music Therapy Research Methods." It was done via the internet with the assistance of an IT person from the German university. This is the third year that Barbara has done a similar lecture to students from this program.

Earlier this week, Brian Abrams, PhD, MT-BC, coordinator of music therapy at Montclair State University in NJ, presented to Principles and Practices of Music Therapy II via Skype. The focus of his presentation was the integration of music into music therapy, a subject on which he has strong feelings and a view that is in contrast with that of others. Late last month, Lori Gooding, PhD, MT-BC, the director of the master's in music therapy program that UK will be instituting, presented to MTOUL on NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) music therapy. Earlier in the semester, Kathy Murphy, PhD, MT-BC, a NJ clinician, spoke to Principles and Practices about music therapy with addictions. Skype is proving to be a good way to help our students learn from and interact with music therapists with different areas of expertise and orientations.
