Temporary Password and Setting Up Your Computer for Use
After you have completed your new hire paperwork to be added to the payroll, you should watch for your name to appear in the GroupWise email address book. Check with a co-worker to view the address book. The "Look for:" box enter your last name. The program will search the address book listings for your last name. Everyone with your last name will appear. Now check for your complete name within that group. When you are listed, you can do the following:
1.) FIND YOUR ID - In the GroupWise email address book click on your name to look at the information screen. On this screen you will find your "Email address". Mine is pndetw01@louisville.edu and yours will look similar. Before the "@" is your User ID. Mine is pndetw01. It is built from your name with two digits added. You will be using this User ID almost everywhere in the university.
2.) LOCATE YOUR EMPLOYEE / STUDENT ID NUMBER - If you were a student of the university the employee number will be the same, but the ID card is different. Go to the Campus Card Office in the basement of the Houchens Building. Take your driver's license to present to Campus Card Office. They will issue you a picture ID card after taking your picture. This card will have your employee ID number. You may always call us for your new employee ID number should you need it before getting your ID card, but get the card as soon as you can.
3.) BUILD YOUR FIRST TEMPORARY PASSWORD - To enter many sites on the web you will need your User ID and a password. Your first password will give you access to a university website such as your email in GroupWise. This first password will be the first two letters of your first name, then the first two letters of your last name, and then the last four digits of your employee / student ID number. (FFLL####) On the first use of this temporary password it will immediately expire. A new window will appear on the computer screen advising you of this expiration and ask you to enter your User ID, the now "old" password, and enter your new password twice. You now have a password that nobody should know. (Do not use your name or something common to you that someone may guess.)
If it does not work on the third try - call the HELP DESK at 852-7997. It may be that you have been a student and have forgotten your password. The HELP DESK can reset your password.
4.) Add your User ID to your computer - You will need your User ID and password for logging onto your computer. Your Tier I Technology Specialist, Matthew Crum , 852-3616, matthew.crum@louisville.edu, must add your User ID into your computer's permitted user access listing that he manages. Ask your supervisor for help if the Tier I is not available in a reasonable amount of time.
5.) After you are able to use your new User ID on your computer - You can use it in just about any computer on campus. Here are a few important links or addresses now that you are ready.
