Music Theory & Composition
Paul Dell Aquila teaches graduate and undergraduate music theory in the School of Music, as well as courses in audio production and songwriting for the Jazz Studies Program. Beyond work in music theory and audio production, Dell Aquila is an avid composer and songwriter in both classical and pop styles and a regular performer with his wife Grace in the music ensemble Another Colour.
Born on Long Island, Dell Aquila began his musical studies at the age of ten in his hometown of Farmingdale under the direction of esteemed music retailer and educator Al LiCausi. After high school, he studied classical guitar with composer and author Stanley Solow and renowned New York classical guitarist and professor William Zito.
Dell Aquila received his Bachelor of Science in music composition from Hofstra University in 1988 and his Master of Music degree in music theory from the University of Louisville in 2003. During college, he also pursued private studies in jazz guitar and music arranging with New York session musician and author Howard Morgen.
Dell Aquila has over 25 years of hands-on experience in the field of audio recording and production and is a certified audio engineer and Avid Pro Tools music software operator. For ten years, he served as a studio session guitarist for the Audio Recording Technology Institute of New York. Dell Aquila also has extensive knowledge and experience in electronic music and MIDI sound production and has studied with Professor Herbert Deutsch, co-inventor of the music synthesizer with Robert Moog.
