Brian Kushmaul
Applied Music Studies, Percussion
Brian Kushmaul is an adjunct percussion instructor at the University of
Louisville. He plays percussion regularly with the Louisville
Orchestra, and is Assistant Principal Percussionist of the Chautauqua
Symphony Orchestra. In addition, he is the percussionist for
Louisville's premiere flamenco ensemble Al Sur, and plays drumset for
the Central Standard TIme jazz quartet. Mr. Kushmaul also performs with
the Columbus (Ohio) Symphony and the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra. He
has appeared as concerto soloist with the Evansville Philharmonic and
the Las Cruces Symphony, and has recorded with the Phoenix Symphony,
Summit Brass, and Tanglewood Festival Orchestra.
Prior to moving to Louisville, Mr. Kushmaul taught percussion at the
University of Evansville, and served as Principal Timpanist of the
Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra. He received his Master of Music
Performance from Temple University, studying with Philadelphia
Orchestra percussionist Alan Abel.
