Debbie Dunn

In 1973-1977 I attended Central State University in Edmond, Oklahoma, and received my BME, with a 3.9 grade point average. I was accepted at Indiana University, Master's Program in 1977, I graduated with honors in 1979. I studied clarinet with Earl Bates and L. Portnoy, I played under the direction of Ray Cramer. I moved to Jefferson County, Ky. and began teaching in 1979. I taught band at all levels, elementary, middle, and high school, I also taught choir at the high school level. I was a mentor for Jefferson Co. Public Schools, helping new and struggling teachers, in all areas of music, band, choir, orchestra, and general music. I spent the bulk of my career at the middle school level. My bands consistently received distinguished ratings. I was elected Jefferson Co. Teacher of the Year, twice. I held positions of leadership, serving as All County Chair, President of District 12, and treasurer of District 12. I ran solo and ensemble festival and large ensemble festival for District 12. In 2002, I received my Rank I from Indiana Wesleyan University. I retired from Jefferson Co. Public Schools in 2012, after thirty-two years of service. I play in a community band, The Louisville Winds. I have taught privately for many years. In 2014, I was asked to teach Introduction to Woodwind Methods at University of Louisville. I also do consulting work with student teachers from Indiana University. I am the treasurer of my church, First church of God.
