Due to the tremendous response to our sampler offers, we are asking visitors to self-limit themselves. Here are our intended uses of our free sampler CDs:

  • For prospective applicants to the Composition Program...either high school students or undergraduate students considering study at UofL.
  • For music teachers who have students who might benefit from listening to new music compositions. This group might include high school and college teachers, but it might also include elementary school teachers, middle school teachers, and private studio instructors.
  • For curious new music composers who would like a more convenient, permanent copy of our samplers, or who are interested in sharing our work with other new music composers off-line.
  • For serious fans of new music composition.

Rebecca Doran (b.1979)

Three Geometries for Chamber Orchestra, Mvt. I: Parallel and Perpendicular
Having completed her M.M. in Music Theory and Composition at the University of Louisville School of Music in May 2003, Rebecca Doran is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Music Theory at the University of Texas at Austin School of Music, where she is also a Teaching Assistant. (12/03)


David Plylar (b.1978)

The Triumph of Sisyphus
The first recipient of the Grawemeyer Fellowship in Music Composition, David Plylar completed his M.M. in Music Theory and Composition at the University of Louisville in May 2003. The Triumph of Sisyphus was written during David’s first year of graduate study and was premiered at the New Music Festival in November 2002. Currently, David is a fellowship student in the doctoral program at the Eastman School of Music. (12/03)


Kevin Kester (b.1980)

Acoustic Shadows and The Music Box: Mvt. I, Topaz and Mvt. II, Black Onyx
Kevin Kester will receive his B.M. in Music Theory and Composition from the University of Louisville in May 2004. His plans include graduate study and experience abroad. Kevin has received both the Nelson Keyes and Warren Babb scholarships in music composition. Acoustic Shadows and The Music Box were written during Kevin’s Junior and Senior years, respectively. Ryan Connell (b.1979)

Three Preludes and ...her image deeply lies...
After completing requirements for a B.M. in piano performance, Ryan Connell chose to follow his awakened interest in composition through undergraduate study. Ryan has received the Warren Babb scholarship in music composition. In May 2004, he will receive both a B.M. in piano performance and a B.M. in Music Theory and Composition and plans to pursue graduate study in composition. The digital Preludes premiered in Spring 2003 and were created earlier that year. ...her image deeply lies... also premiered in Spring 2003 and was composed the previous fall. (12/03)


David Golightly (b.1979)

Cahier: Mvt. 2-3
In the spring of 2002, David Golightly received his B.M. in Music Theory and Composition from the University of Louisville. Cahier was written during his junior year. David’s goals include graduate study in linguistics. (12/03)


David Walker (b.1975)

Congelatory Spheres
Having received his B.M. in Music History from the University of Louisville, David Walker is currently a Masters student at Indiana University Bloomington, where his focus is early instrumental music. An accomplished performer on guitar, lute, and various other early stringed instruments, David is also the guitar player for The Pennies, a successful alternative band. David studied composition for a year as an undergraduate and for a semster as a post-baccalaureate student. Congelatory Spheres was written during the latter period. (12/03)


Jeremy Perry (b.1978)

Dans la maison de Scriabine, pour le piano
Currently a second year undergraduate composition major at the University of Louisville and the current recipient of the Warren Babb scholarship in music composition, Jeremy Perry completed and performed Dans la maison de Scriabine in his first year of formal study. Jeremy expects to receive his B.M. in Music Theory and Composition in 2005. (12/03)


Ochion Jewell (b.1978)

Amygdala
A successful and accomplished jazz saxophonist, Ochion Jewell graduated from the University of Louisville with a B.M. in performance in 2003. He studied composition during his senior year, and Amygdala was his first work outside the jazz idiom. Recently, Ochion released his first jazz CD, titled Still Life. (12/03)

Paul Dell Aquila (b.1966)

Brass Tacks, Mvt. III
Already a successful composer and performer in the world of popular music with his group, Another Colour, Paul Dell Aquila received his M.M. in Music Theory and Composition from the University of Louisville in 2003. Brass Tacks was written during his second year of graduate study. Currently, Paul is an adjunct professor at the University of Louisville, where he teaches Music Analysis. He plans to pursue his doctorate in music. (12/03)
