2013 Jazz Events
The Jamey Aebersold Jazz Studies Program at the University of Louisville School of Music is known throughout the country and worldwide for our commitment to presenting master performers and educators on our campus. Artists from Dave Brubeck to Elvin Jones, Paquito d’Rivera to Wynton Marsalis, Ray Brown to Stanley Turrentine, Michael Brecker to Toots Thielemans and many more have performed and interacted directly with our students, faculty and individuals from the community.
The newly established Visiting Jazz Artist Endowed Chair will enable our program to continue, expand and even diversify our ability to bring jazz masters to our school. The Visiting Jazz Artist Endowed Chair is designed so that artists will do more than perform. Artists will be on campus for an extended stay, working directly with our students in a variety of settings – classroom, ensemble, private lessons and more. Visiting Jazz Artists have included guitarists Bucky Pizzarelli and Lionel Loueke, bassist Eddie Gomez and saxophonist Antonio Hart. The Visiting Jazz Artists for the 2012-13 season will continue this exceptional tradition.
