Los Angeles Guitar Quartet and Kalichstein Laredo Robinson Trio are Highlights of Five Concerts
to be Performed at University of Louisville Margaret Comstock Concert Hall
 

 

The Chamber Music Society of Louisville is pleased to announce the programs for its 2006-07 season. Five of the world’s finest classical music ensembles will perform as a part of the series, with all performances held on Sundays at 3:00 p.m. in the intimate Comstock Hall concert venue on the University of Louisville campus.

2006-2007 Season Subscription Form - Print & Mail

Regular season tickets are $80, season tickets for students are $15. Once on sale (date TBD), regular single tickets are $25, single event tickets for students are $5. Subscribers may assist the Society as Patrons, Benefactors or Sustainers with tickets plus donations at levels of $175, $225, and $500 or more. Selected works on programs are subject to change. Contact the University of Louisville’s School of Music at (502) 852-6907 to purchase subscriptions or request additional information.

 The Czech Nonet is one of the oldest continuously performing ensembles of its type in the world. Founded in 1924, the ensemble uses the instrumentation requirements of Ludwig Spohr's Grand Nonetto, Op. 31 (violin, viola, cello, bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and horn).

Recognized as one of the world’s premiere string quartets, the Takács Quartet plays with a virtuosic technique, intense immediacy and consistently burnished tone. Now entering its thirtieth season, the Takács Quartet has performed repertoire ranging from Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert to Bartok, Britten, Dutilleux, Janacek and Sheng. Since their ensemble debut at President Carter's Inauguration, pianist Joseph Kalichstein, violinist Jaime Laredo, and cellist Sharon Robinson have been the reigning exemplar for the piano trio. "Evenly and expertly matched, [they] convey the sheer pleasure of making music so spontaneously. Individually and collectively, these musicians are special" (The Chicago Tribune).

The Cavani String Quartet, winner of the prestigious Naumburg Chamber Music Award, has been described by the Washington Post as "completely engrossing, powerful and elegant." The four female players in the Cavani Quartet make Cleveland, Ohio their home, where they have been Quartet-in-Residence at the world-renowned Cleveland Institute of Music since 1988.
