Juilliard String Quartet
www.juilliardquartet.com
Returning for their 45th year of performances in Louisville to open the season will be our old friends “The Juilliard.” They have appeared here since 1954—33 times on an annual basis—and during this time have performed 87 different works for the Society. For over 50 years they have been recognized as a leader in their field, and their performances are celebrated for clarity of structure, beauty of sound, compelling rhythmic drive, and unanimity of purpose. Their concert will present the Schubert Quartet in E-flat Major, D. 87 to be followed by Quartet in D Minor by Hugo Wolf, and Quartet in D Major, K. 499 by Mozart.
*This concert is presented with posthumous funding from Dr. Gerhard Herz, a Society founder and renowned music historian.

Bold, exhilarating performances and exploration of interesting repertoire have earned The Los Angeles Piano Quartet international stature as a premier
ensemble of its kind. They are returning after a popular debut for the Society in February 2002. They will perform the Piano Quartet in E-flat Major, Op. 16 by Beethoven, and Piano Quartet in C Minor, Op. 15 by Faure. Baritone Kurt Ollmann came to prominence as a protege of Leonard Bernstein, has sung opera and vocal recitals throughout the world, and returns to Louisville after an extraordinary Mahler lieder recital for the Society in November 2002. He will join the Quartet in the
centerpiece of the program, Santa Fe Songs by Ned Rorem as the vocal artist who sang the premiere performance for the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival.

The American Chamber Players
www.acplayers.com
The season finale brings a return for another group well received by the Society. The American Chamber Players were formed in 1985 by Miles Hoffman from a core of artists at The Library of Congress Summer Chamber Festival. Considered one of today’s most exciting and innovative chamber music ensembles, they have toured throughout North America, and perform a wonderfully varied
repertoire ranging from familiar masterpieces to neglected gems and newly commissioned works. Their program here will open with the Mozart Oboe Quartet and conclude with the Schumann Piano Quartet. Between will be works by Damase, Duruflé and Foote in trios each of varied instrumentation.
