TOM ZINNINGER – Jazz and Classical saxophone
Tom Zinninger recently received a doctorate in saxophone performance from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati where he served as an adjunct instructor of saxophone in 2013. A native of Louisville, KY, Zinninger has been an active performer and educator in the Kentucky-Ohio-Indiana areas for the past 12 years. His performance experience has ranged from combo and big band jazz to classical chamber and orchestral music. As a classical saxophonist, Zinninger has recently given performances at the 16th World Sax Congress in St. Andrews, Scotland, and the 2012 NASA biennial conference in Tempe, AZ. He has also been featured with the Richmond Symphony Orchestra, the Frank Simon Band, and the Chamber Winds of Louisville.
As a jazz saxophonist, Zinninger has performed with the Cincinnati Contemporary Jazz Orchestra, the RL Big Band, and the Don Kreckel Orchestra as well as numerous performances in duo, trio, or quartet settings. As an educator, Zinninger has worked with students in a variety of musical settings including concert band, jazz ensemble, jazz combo, chamber ensemble, marching band, and group lessons. At the university level, he has taught courses in jazz improvisation, jazz appreciation, and saxophone pedagogy. He currently maintains a private teaching studio in Cincinnati. In addition to his doctorate, Zinninger also holds degrees in Jazz Studies from CCM, and Music Education from the University of Louisville.
