The University of Louisville Urology Residency Program's clinical faculty consists of several well-respected, locally practicing urologists working together to provide a diverse educational experience for our residents, some of which are University of Louisville alumni.

 

Mohammad Amin, MD
Chief of Urological Surgery Robley Rex VA Medical Center, Assistant Clinical Professor of Urology and VA Site Director, UofL Urology Residency Program

           

A native of Sargodha, West Pakistan, Dr. Amin has and continues to play a vital role in the University of Louisville Urology Residency program. An internationally renowned urological surgeon, Dr. Amin received his degree from King Edward College, Punjab University, Lahore, Pakistan in 1963.  Dr. Amin completed internships at Mayo Hospital, Lahore, Pakistan and Muhlenberg Hospital, Plainfield, New Jersey, and surgical and urological surgery residencies at University of Louisville from 1965-1969. Dr. Amin is licensed in Kentucky, Indiana, Pakistan, and the United Kingdom.  He is a member of numerous medical and professional societies, as well as committees.  Dr. Amin has received several honors and awards and has authored numerous publications, abstracts and book chapters. 

With a tremendous knowledge of the history of the University of Louisville Urology Residency program, Dr. Amin has been key in providing valuable information and education to our residents and our residency program.  Dr. Amin serves as Site Director for our Veterans Administration Medical Center urological residency rotation.

 

 

 

David Aronoff, MD
Assistant Clinical Professor of Urology

 

A native of Clearwater, Florida, Dr. Aronoff received his undergraduate degree from the University of Florida, and attended the University of South Florida School of Medicine. His internship was at the Naval Hospital San Diego, California and in General Surgery at the University of South Florida. He completed specialty training in urology at the University of Cincinnati and performed his fellowship in pediatric urology at Long Island Jewish/ Schneider’s Children’s Hospital, Albert Einstein School of Medicine in New York. He has served as a general medical officer in the US Navy, and was an Associate Professor at Texas Tech University and has been in both academic and private practice. 

He is certified by the American Board of Urology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics

 

 

 

Aaron Becker, MD
Assistant Clinical Professor of Urology
 

Dr. Becker graduated magna cum laude from Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee. He received his medical degree from the University of Kentucky School of Medicine, and completed his residency in urologic surgery and kidney transplantation at the University of Toledo in Toledo, Ohio.  Dr. Becker's clinical interests include urologic cancers, kidney stone disease, incontinence, and treatment of BPH, with special emphasis on minimally invasive techniques and robotic surgery.

Dr. Becker is a member of the American Urological Association, the Kentucky medical Association, and the Greater Louisville Medical Society.

     
Arnold Belker, MD
Emeritus Professor of Urology
 

Dr. Belker received his degree from University of Louisville in 1958.   He completed residency training in Urology at the State University Hospitals, Iowa, from 1962-1965.  Since completing his residency, he has been in private practice, and he is currently retired..  He is certified by the American Board of Urology, 1969.

 

Dr. Belker served as an integral part of the Division of Urology for over 30 years and taught medical students and residents daily. He was critically involved in the development of the new Department of Urology and reestablishment of the urology residency program.

 

Dr. Belker has been a leader in the Louisville urology community and a national leader in the academic field of Andrology for decades. His contributions enriched the Medical School and the lives of many colleagues, students, and patients.

     

Morris "Brooks" Jackson, II, MD
Assistant Clinical Professor of Urology

 

Dr. Jackson graduated from the University of Louisville School of Medicine in 1981.  In 1986, he completed his residency at the University of Louisville in the departments of surgery and urology.  He has been in private practice since that time until he joined Allied Urology in June 2006.  Dr. Jackson was board certified by the American Board of Urology in 1989 and has been recertified two times since then, the latest being 2005.  He is a member of the Greater Louisville Medical Society and the American Medical Association.  He is a member of the American Urological Association, the Southeastern Urological Society, as well as past president of the Kentucky Urological Society.  He has also served as a clinician for the University of Louisville urology clinic.  Dr. Jackson is licensed to practice in Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio. 

Dr. Jackson's special areas of interest are stone disease, urologic cancers, and the treatment of incontinence, in addition to general urology.

 

 

 

John H. Jurige, Jr., MD
Assistant Clinical Professor of Urology

 

Born and raised in Louisville, Dr. John Jurige graduated magna cum laude from the University of Louisville in 1980.  He completed his urology residency training in 1989 at University of Louisville.  He is board certified by the American Board of Urology.

Dr. Jurige's areas of special interest include female urology and incontinence management, microsurgical vasectomy reversal, erectile dysfunction, and prostate cancer treatment.  He is especially interested in less invasive treatment options for prostate cancer, including laparoscopy, brachytherapy (radiation seeds), and ablative techniques such as HIFU (high intensity focused ultrasound).

 

 

 

William Klompus, MD
Assistant Clinical Professor of Urology

 

Dr. Klompus received his medical degree from New York Medical College in 1959.   He completed an internship and general surgery residency at Harrisburg polyclinic Hospital in Pennsylvania from 1959 to 1961, and residency training in urology at the University of Louisville from 1963 to 1966.  He also served as a flight medical officer in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1962.  Since completing his training, he has held many ranks at the University of Louisville, including Clinical Instructor in Urology (1966-1971), Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery, Division of Urology (1972-1977), Associate Clinical Professor of Surgery, Division of Urology (1977-1992), and Clinical Professor of Surgery, Division of Urology (1992-2008).  He is certified by the American Board of Urology, served as president of the Kentucky Urological Association and the Board of Trustees of the Kentucky Medical Assocation, is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and is a Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (2011).

Dr. Klompus has remained very active in teaching medical students and general surgery residents including the fundamentals of urology and clinical documentation at the Trover Clinic. He has recently completed a short textbook of "Urologic Acrostics". 

 

 

 

Ryan J. Malone, MD
Assistant Clinical Professor of Urology

 

Dr. Malone completed his undergraduate studies at Murray State University, graduated from the University of Louisville School of Medicine and completed his surgical internship and urology residency at the Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Malone is certified by the American Board of Urology and is licensed to practice in Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, and Georgia. He also holds active memberships in the American Medical Association, the American Urologic Association, and the Southeastern Section of the American Urologic Association. Dr. Malone serves as Site Director for our Norton Hospital urological residency rotation.

Dr. Malone's interests include all aspects of urology, specifically laparoscopic urologic surgery, urinary stone disease, female urology, urologic oncology, and the treatment of BPH.

 

 

 

H. Nicholas Meiers, MD
Assistant Clinical Professor of Urology

 

Dr. Meiers is a graduate of Centre College in Danville, Kentucky.  He graduated cum laude from the University of Louisville, School of Medicine in 1998. He attended the University of Cincinnati for his urologic surgical training.

Dr. Meiers places a specific emphasis on laparoscopic surgeries, robotic surgery for prostatectomies and other renal procedures. Other special interests include neurostimulation for overactive bladder, otherwise known as Interstim therapy, as well as minimally invasive in-office procedures for BPH.

 

 

 

Matthew D. Peterson, MD
Assistant Clinical Professor of Urology

 

Dr. Peterson was born in Michigan and raised in Nashville, Tennessee. He received his undergraduate degree from University of Virginia. Dr. Peterson graduated from the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and received his urology training from Indiana University School of Medicine. Dr. Peterson practices all aspects of general urology, with a special interest in oncology and stone disease. He is a urologic surgeon practicing all techniques including minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic.

 

 

 

Ganesh Rao, MD
Assistant Clinical Professor of Urology

 

Dr. Rao received his bachelor of medicine and surgery at Mysore Medical College, University of Mysore, India. He was a research associate in the Division of Urologic Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri, from 1993 to 1996. He completed his internship in surgery and his residency in urologic surgery at the University of Louisville from 1996 to 2001. Dr. Rao is certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates and he is a member of the Indian Physicians Association of Kentucky. Dr. Rao ranked in the 97th percentile of his graduating class and is the recipient of several honors and awards. He is a member of the American Urological Association and has co-authored several publications and presented several abstracts at American Urological Association meetings.

 

 

 

Kerry Short, MD
Assistant Clinical Professor of Urology

 

A native of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Dr. Short received his undergraduate degree at Western Kentucky University, graduating Summa Cum Laude, from 1972 to 1975.  Dr. Short completed his medical degree from 1975 to 1979 and his urological surgery residency at the University of Louisville in 1984.  Dr. Short is a member of several professional organizations and is board certified by the American Board of Urology. 

 

 

 

Dennis N. Smith, MD
Assistant Clinical Professor of Urology

 

Dr. Smith graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College at Harvard University in 1988 and subsequently attended Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. He completed two years of general surgery training and his urology residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. He received additional training in laparoscopic approaches to female urinary incontinence and in microsurgery. He also performed a year of molecular biology research at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Dr. Smith has authored articles in professional journals on the use of collagen in treating urinary incontinence, and has presented his research in the treatment of urinary incontinence and voiding dysfunction at national and international urologic meetings. He is certified by the American Board of Urology. 

Dr. Smith practices general urology with a specific interest in female urology, voiding dysfunction, laparoscopic surgeries and robotic prostatectomy.

 

 

 

Christopher G. Schrepferman, MD
Assistant Clinical Professor of Urology

 

Dr. Schrepferman completed his undergraduate education at Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana, graduating cum laude, and subsequently attended the Indiana University School of Medicine. Dr. Schrepferman completed residency training at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa and fellowship training in male infertility and microsurgery at the Baylor College of Medicine.

Dr. Schrepferman is a member of the American Urological Association, the Society of Male Reproduction and Urology, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the Society for the Study of Male Reproduction, and the American Society of Andrology. He has published articles concerning male infertility, female incontinence, and microscopic vasectomy reversal.  His interests include all areas of urology, particularly male infertility and sexual function, stone disease, and urologic cancers.

 

 

 

Christopher E.W. Smith, MD
Assistant Clinical Professor of Urology

 

Dr. Smith attended Indiana University and University of Louisville where he graduated cum laude. He graduated in 1992 from the University of Louisville School of Medicine and trained at the University Hospitals completing his urological surgery training in 1997. Dr. Smith has had extensive post-graduate training in laparoscopic urology and was the first to perform retroperitoneal laparoscopic kidney and adrenal surgery and prostatectomy in greater Louisville. He has performed 250 laparoscopic prostatectomies since 2003. He has performed bench and clinical research on neurogenic bladder. He is a member of numerous local, regional and national societies including the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons. Dr. Smith has considerable experience in office treatments for BPH.

Dr. Smith's interests include laparoscopic urologic surgery, percutaneous stone surgery and minimally invasive BPH treatments.

 

 

 

Greg S. Steinbock, MD
Assistant Clinical Professor of Urology

 

Dr. Steinbock is a native of Louisville, Kentucky, and received his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University. He graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine and received training in general surgery from Dartmouth Medical School in Hanover, New Hampshire. Dr. Steinbock received his urological training at the University of Vermont and a fellowship in urinary stone disease at the University of Florida. Dr. Steinbock is board certified by the American Board of Urology and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

 

 

 

Stephan J. Sweitzer, MD
Assistant Clinical Professor of Urology

 

Dr. Sweitzer is a graduate of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, where he was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He completed his internship and general surgery training at Yale-New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut and completed his urology residency at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky. He is certified by the American Board of Urology. Dr. Sweitzer has served as the President of the Kentucky Urological Society and President of the Jewish Hospital Medical Staff. He has served on the Medical Advisors Board of the Kidney Foundation of Kentucky and Planned Parenthood, Inc.

Dr. Sweitzer has a special interest in the treatment of urologic cancer, kidney stone disease and surgery for urinary incontinence.

 

 

 

Samuel R. Watkins, Jr, MD
Assistant Clinical Professor of Urology

 

Dr. Watkins graduated magna cum laude from Vanderbilt University in 1980 and subsequently from the University Of Louisville School Of Medicine in 1984.  He completed two years of general surgery training and his urology residency at Vanderbilt University.  He is certified by the American Board of Urology. Dr. Watkins is a member of the American Urologic Association, American Medical Association, Kentucky Medical Association and the Greater Louisville Medical Society.

Dr. Watkins practices in all areas of urology with a special interest in diseases of the prostate and urologic malignancies.
