Alan F. Smith, Ph.D.
Dr. Alan F. Smith is a Lecturer within the Department of Surgery, Division of Speech Pathology at the University of Louisville. Dr. Smith received a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Pathology from Western Kentucky University in 2001, a Master of Science degree in Communicative Disorders from the University of Louisville in 2003 and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Nutrition from Clayton College in 2009.
Dr. Smith has served as Guest Speaker and/or Lecturer for UofL’s Speech Pathology department since fall 2006. His clinical background has largely focused on pediatrics having been employed with Kosair Children’s Hospital from 2003-2007. Additionally, Dr. Smith has worked in early intervention, the public schools and home health.
His current teaching load consists of: neurological disorders of speech production, aphasia, cognitive disorders, clinical phonetics, and survey of communication disorders. He also maintains a private practice providing early intervention services to children with feeding, speech and/or language disorders.
His current research interests center on neurogenic communication disorders with emphasis on traumatic brain injury.
