Post-Graduate Year 2

by Kathleen H. Sauer last modified Jul 18, 2012 09:45 AM

Having acquired basic skills in assessment and diagnosis during the initial year of residency, the next two years emphasize increasing the breadth and depth of clinical experience. The PG 2 year includes rotations on inpatient adult psychiatry, child psychiatry, emergency psychiatry, neurology, consultation/liaison, and addiction psychiatry. The PGY-2 resident begins to establish a caseload of individual outpatients for continuity of care.

PGY 2 CURRICULUM

Second year residents attend weekly didactics every Tuesday afternoon from 1:00 until 5:00.  The Psychopathology and Psychopharmacology Course continue during this year. Further development occurs as the residents begin seminars in human development and principles of psychotherapy.  The spring semester heralds the beginning of theory courses in psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral therapy.

Second year residents continue to meet with the chairman for a weekly noon seminar.  A psychiatrist also leads a process group for the class during this year.
