A Day in the Life of a PGY-2
Josef Froehlich, M.D.
Typically I start my day a bit later as a second year than I did as an intern. Depending on the rotation, I get to work between 7:45 and 8:15. A lot of the days are similar to the typical day experienced as an intern, but they don't feel as rushed and I never feel I am running out of time to get things done. What is great is the feeling that I have a better grasp on what needs to be done and how go about my day without constantly wondering if what I am doing is right. As a second year I will get the chance to have more involvement and autonomy with developing a treatment plan for my patients. What is also nice is the chance to have my own clinic each week to see patients. This is when we get a chance to learn how to do therapy and really get to know our patients. We get a chance to meet with an advisor every week to discuss our patients and talk about therapy. Call is different as a second year resident. While it may seem overwhelming to know we are on our own at night, the knowledge and experience gained as an intern has more than provided me with what I need to get through the night. It also helps that we have less call as second year residents! I feel confident this year with what I have learned so far and am also happier in having more free time for life outside of work.
