Dr. Shaffer is an attending psychologist and Director of the Pre-doctoral Psychology Internship Training Program in the division of Child, Adolescent, and Family Psychiatry. She received her Bachelor of Arts with honors in psychology from Duke University and her Masters and Doctorate in child clinical psychology from the University of Denver. Dr. Shaffer completed her doctoral internship in child clinical and pediatric psychology at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. She conducts a postdoctoral fellowship in adolescent health promotion and prevention research at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development where she received an Intramural Research Training Award. Dr. Shaffer specializes in the treatment of pediatric obesity and traumatic brain injury. She is the director of behavioral health at Healthy for Life!, a multidisciplinary treatment program for obese and overweight youth. She also provides child, adolescent, and family therapy at the Bingham Clinic. In addition to her clinical service, Dr. Shaffer oversees the administration of the child clinical and pediatric psychology internship program and provides supervision and didactic instruction to trainees on child and adolescent psychology and psychiatry. Her research focuses on adolescent peer relationships and sexuality.
