Director of Psychiatry Residency Program

Director of Women's Mental Health Program, UofL Health Care Outpatient Center

 Dr. Spurgeon is Director of the Residency Training Program for the University of Louisville Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.  She serves as Director of  the Women’s Mental Health Clinical Program.  She chairs the Residency Education Committee and the Residency Advancement Committee.  Dr. Spurgeon received her undergraduate degree from Georgetown College and obtained her medical degree from the University of Louisville.  Dr. Spurgeon completed her psychiatric residency training from the University of Louisville where she was Chief Resident and received her board certification in psychiatry in 2006.  During her residency she received numerous awards and honors, including the Norton Psychiatric Center Award, the Dr. Henry P & M Page Durkee Laughlin Foundation Merit Award, Outstanding Resident in Community Psychiatry, and the Pfizer In-Patient Award.  Dr. Spurgeon is a member of many national and regional committees and currently serves as the Early Career Psychiatrist Representative to the Board of Trustees of the American Psychiatric Association.  She has also made national and regional presentations related to infertility, perinatal depression and weight management.
