Chris Stewart, M.D.

Dr. Stewart provides outpatient services, specializing in the areas of addiction psychiatry utilizing group therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing and psychodynamic psychotherapy at the University of Louisville Health Care Outpatient Center. He also is the medical director of Jefferson Alcohol and Drug Abuse Center, a free standing public addiction treatment program that provides many different services including medical detoxification. Dr. Stewart received his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Georgetown College. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Louisville. Dr. Stewart’s general psychiatry and addiction psychiatry residencies were completed at the University of Louisville. He received his board certification in psychiatry in 2002 and added certification in addiction psychiatry in 2006 and added qualifications in psychosomatic medicine in 2008. His active areas of research include studying neurobiological parameters for cue reactivity in addiction in patients with various addictions including opiates and cocaine as well as dual disorders. Dr. Stewart sits on a number of university and local committees and is currently chairman of the University Hospital Physicians Health Committee. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Healing Place addiction treatment center and is a member of the Kentucky Physicians Health Foundation for the Commonwealth of Kentucky. He presents both locally and nationally on substance abuse issues, mood disorders and personality disorders.
