Planning and Preparedness
The Division understands the importance of the planning phase of the preparedness continuum. DPM has developed plans for Federal, State, Regional, and Local private sector and government entities.
The Division utilizes a systematic approach made up of proven methodologies that is consistent with the Department of Homeland Security Target Capability List and President Directive and Health and Human Services guidance regarding national preparedness.
Cost of planning activities is based upon the scope of the project.
Example planning activities by DPM include:
- Natural Death Surge Plans
- Natural Death Surge Transportation Plans
- Patient Movement Plans
- Hospital Evacuation Plans
- Medical Surge Plans
- Pandemic Influenza Plans
- Alternate Care Site Plans
- Aircraft Tactical Response Plan

"Don't drink the water" is a common reminder to travelers, but what happens when the message is "Don't eat the food" and it's coming from your own community? The Division of Protective Medicine is partnering with the Bio-Technology program at Owensboro Community and Technical College to conduct a one-day seminar on the vulnerability of our food chain.
