The realm of emergency preparedness is an ever changing climate within the Commonwealth of Kentucky and across the nation. The Division of Protective Medicine (DPM) is committed to providing an avenue for research and new and innovative training and exercise opportunities in an effort to create an enhanced and prepared society.

The mission of the DPM is to inform healthcare public safety professionals and the public through Preparednesseducation, assessment and research in order to ensure the PROTECTION of themselves, colleagues and their communities from health threats of high consequence.

Vision Statement

  • Support Safety by providing innovative educational opportunities focused on specialized medical knowledge needed for personal protection and community protection
  • Promote Health by providing interactive medical education and assessment through the use of simulation, extreme gaming, and custom designed curricula
  • Research by developing cutting-edge protocols procedures and assessment tools that ensure personal, team and community safety
  • Share Globally by reporting observations and finding through publications, conferences and web-based communications
