Our program offers advanced technology from state-of-the-art mannequins for crisis management simulations to online tools for simplifying the residents’ daily lives. Below is a sample of what we offer.
Online Learning OpportunitiesAnytime, anywhere learning comes to the residency program by way of an array of tools and websites for residents. Examples include streaming presentations developed in-house by the Pediatric Emergency Medicine division, Quality Improvement modules from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, online nutrition seminars from Abbott, and a breastfeeding training from the Yale Primary Care Pediatrics Curriculum online. This model for online educational modules has been replicated by several other divisions in the past year.
As part of the Simulation for Pediatric Assessment, Resuscitation and Communication Program (SPARC), residents perform a minimum of four mock code session per year in an in-situ training site (i.e. an actual clinical environment rather than a separate simulation center) on high fidelity mannequins, seamlessly integrating training with reality. These simulations are recorded and reviewed in a group debriefing center after each session.
(under construction) We are currently in the testing phases of implementing live viewing of our conferences and lectures. Livestream is a tool for broadcasting audio and video online. Core conferences will be broadcast for simultaneous viewing and stored in an archive for future use.
Our Learning Management System (LMS), Blackboard, is home to online lectures and quizzes; interactive patient care modules such as SoftChalk; and serves as a repository for important articles, documents, links, and presentations for resident education. It can be accessed anywhere as long as you have an internet connection.
Our chief residents manage the resident schedules online using the web-based tool, Amion. Residents can view the entire house staff schedule as well as create custom views of their own schedule for all rotations by day, month or year.
Residents can logon anytime, anywhere to New Innovations and enter their duty hours and procedure logs, download needed forms and review up-to-date announcements. The management software is also home to rotation goals and objectives and resident evaluations. A one-stop shop!
