Educational Goals & Characteristics-
The Adult Reconstruction Fellowship offered at the University of Louisville is a comprehensive one-year fellowship designed to enhance the Fellow’s experience in Adult Reconstruction. This includes management of arthritic disorders primarily involving the hip and knee. There is ample exposure to minimally invasive hip and knee arthroplasty techniques, and non arthroplasty solutions to hip and knee arthritis. The fellow will be exposed to primary and revision total hip and knee arthroplasty including management of bone loss, instability and infection. There are a total of three dedicated faculty with extensive experience and a combined surgical volume of approximately 1,500 cases.
The Fellow is required to do two research projects, including a bench work project and a clinical study. The Anatomic Dissection Laboratory, the Total Joint Registry, and the Biomechanics Laboratory are available for research. One day per week is dedicated for research activities and the remaining days to clinical practice. The Fellow will interact with the residents and medical students in clinical situations and in teaching conferences. The Fellow will participate in all phases of patient care including preoperative planning, intra-operative care, and postoperative management.
This fellowship is ACGME accredited.
