Letter From Our Director

In 1925, Helen Keller spoke to the Lions around the world and inspired them to take up the challenge as Knights of the Blind. The Lions of Kentucky took this challenge to heart and helped to build an internationally recognized eye center. The Kentucky Lions Eye Bank, located in the eye center, has saved the vision of thousands of Kentucky residents by providing tissue for corneal transplantation. The generous financial support of the Kentucky Lions has allowed the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Louisville to be one of the pre-eminent eye research centers in the world where patients and doctors from around the world come to receive the finest in medical care and learn the latest in medical and scientific innovation.
Sincerely,
Henry J. Kaplan, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Evans Professor of Ophthalmology,
Chairman, Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences,
Director, Kentucky Lions Eye Care
