The Section of Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women's Health includes one fellowship trained faculty member with extensive training in the management of urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse.
Research
The research focus includes both clinical and basic science projects regarding pelvic floor disorders.
Education
A three-year fellowship is offered in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. This program offers a comprehensive approach to problems of urinary and fecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, defecatory dysfunction, and voiding dysfunction. Surgical education includes a balance of vaginal, open, laparoscopic and robotic techniques. Emphasis is placed on preparing individuals for an academic career. An MSc degree in Epidemiology and Clinical Investigative Sciences is part of the fellowship program.
Unique opportunities include a laparoscopic dry lab dedicated to the fellowship, a fresh tissue cadaver lab with full laparoscopic set-up, and collaborative research opportunities with other University of Louisville clinicians as well as basic scientists. We are actively involved in medical student education as well as resident education in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Urology, and Geriatric Medicine.
Clinical Service
The clinical services for Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery are provided through University OB/GYN Associates, PSC and University GYN/OB Foundation, both part of University Women's HealthCare.
