Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility

The Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Division features some of the region's most experienced and comprehensive clinicians and researchers in this expanding subspecialty. REI is headed by Dr. Steven Nakajima who joined the division in May 1998 as the Division Director and the Reproductive Endocrinology Fellowship Program Director. His interests include in vitro fertilization, endoscopic surgery and ovarian physiology. Dr. Henry Bohler, Associate Professor, is board certified in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and his clinical and research interests involve the effects of adipose tissue on reproduction and polycystic ovary syndrome. Dr. Johanna Archer, Assistant Professor, specializes in oncofertility and menopausal patients. Dr. Marvin Yussman, Professor, is noted for his skill in endoscopy and vaginal surgery. Dr. Christine Cook, Professor, has clinical interests in infertility and menopausal patients.

The Division excels in comprehensive infertility evaluations and surgical procedures including advanced operative laparoscopy and hysteroscopy. The Division operates a state-of-the-art Fertility Center with an in vitro fertilization program that has the highest live delivery rates in the area. Education

The University of Louisville Fellowship Program in Reproductive Endocrinology, begun in 1977, is a three-year program providing an intense educational experience for both the clinical and research aspects of the specialty. The Division's private practice covers all aspects of endocrinological (infertility, contraception, menopause) and surgical aspects (operative endoscopy, laser and microsurgery) of the subspecialty.

Research

The Division has extensive research facilities for a number of projects germane to the specialty.

Clinical Services
The clinical services of the Division are provided through University OB/GYN Associates and University GYN/OB Foundation, which are part of University Women's HealthCare.
