Research
Expectations
Beginning with the PGY-2 year, residents are encouraged to prepare and submit at least one manuscript for peer review publication each year of their training. Each resident will be assigned a research mentor, based on declared research interests.
The PGY-4 year includes 6 months devoted to research. A research plan, including all necessary resources, should be approved by the research mentor and the program director by the end of the PGY-3 year. The PGY-6 year is a full research year.
We encourage and support residents’ research activities.
Opportunities
The University of Louisville Department of Neurosurgery is one of the top-five NIH-funded neuroscience departments. Neurosurgical residents often participate in research (clinical, basic science and translational) studies through KSCIRC, the Kentucky Spinal Cord Injury Research Center.
