Biography
Stephen S. Kirzinger, MD, is Associate Professor in the Department of Neurology at the University of Louisville Medical School in Louisville, Kentucky. Dr. Kirzinger is Medical Director of the Multiple Sclerosis Care Center Program at the University, seeing patients at the University of Louisville Health Care Outpatient MS Center.
Upon earning a medical degree from the University of Louisville, Dr. Kirzinger completed an internship in categorical psychiatry and an adult neurology residency at the Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, DC. He also completed a Masters of Science degree in Biochemistry at the University of Louisville.
Dr. Kirzinger’s research interests have focused on stroke and neurodegenerative diseases, especially Multiple Sclerosis. He is a member of the editorial board of Neura and presents nationally and internationally. He was an active board member and treasurer for the Kentucky and Southern Indiana Stroke Association until 2005.
A Diplomat in Adult Neurology of The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Dr. Kirzinger is a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology. He is also a member of the European Neurological Society, the American Medical Association, the Kentucky Medical Association, and the Greater Louisville Medical Society where he has served on the Board of Governors and as President of the Medical Society Professional Services organization since 1997.
He is a Board Member of the Kentucky-Southeast Indiana Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and is immediate past-Chair of the Clinical Advisory Committee. He is Vice Chair of the Education Committee of the Consortium of MS Centers and is on the Board of the National MS Society Clinical Care Committee.

Research Interests
Dr. Kirzinger has been involved in clinical research since 1993. He has been the principle investigator in over 100 studies. He is involved in clinical research studies in Multiple Sclerosis regarding new treatment options, analysis of symptom management in the disease, and in cognitive rehabilitation.
