Dr. Flynn 
Dr. Michael B. Flynn is Professor in the Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology, at the University of Louisville. After completing a general surgery residency at the University of Maryland Hospital, he received additional training in a Surgical Oncology Fellowship and an advanced Fellowship in Head and Neck Surgery at the M.D. Anderson Hospital and Cancer Institute in Houston. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a past president of the Society of Head and Neck Surgeons and a member of many professional organizations, including the Society of Surgical Oncology. Dr. Flynn's areas of special interest include head and neck cancer, tumors of the thyroid and parathyroid glands, and salivary gland tumors. Recent technological advances have stimulated interest and experience in radioguided surgery by Dr. Flynn and his colleagues, Drs. Jeffrey Bumpous and Richard Goldstein.

 


Dr. Bumpous
Dr. Jeffrey M. Bumpous is the J. Samuel Bumgardner Professior and Chief of the Division of Otolaryngology, Department of Surgery, at the University of Louisville. Postgraduate training includes a residency in otolaryngology at St. Louis University, followed by a Fellowship in Head and Neck Oncology, base of skull surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute. He is board certified in Otolaryngology and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.Dr. Bumpous is a member of many professional organizations including the American Society of Head and Neck Surgeons, the Society of Head and Neck Surgeons, and the American Academy of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery. His areas of special interest include head and neck cancer, tumors of the base of the skull, and tumors of the thyroid and parathyroid glands.

 


Dr. Goldsein
Dr. Richard E. Goldstein is the Kenneth VonRoenn, M.D. Family Chair in Surgical Endocrinology and Professor of Surgery in the Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology at the University of Louisville.  After obtaining his M.D. at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, he completed a general surgery residency at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN.  While there he also received a PhD in Molecular Physiology and Biophysics.   After completing his training at Vanderbilt he joined the surgical faculty at Vanderbilt University and was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in the Division of Surgical Oncology.  While there he founded and was Surgical Director of the Vanderbilt Thyroid and Surgical Endocrinology Center.  He is a member of many professional organizations including the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons and The Endocrine Society.  He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.  Dr. Goldstein's areas of interest include thyroid disease and thyroid cancer, hyperparathyroidism including parathyroid tumors, adrenal tumors and pancreatic islet cell tumors.He is experienced in laparoscopic adrenalectomy and minimally invasive radio-guided parathyroidectomy and is leading the development of video-assisted endocrine surgery of the neck in Louisville along with his colleagues Dr. Bumpous and Dr. Flynn.

 


Muffin Fleming
Muffin Fleming is a Research Coordinator in the Division of Surgical Oncology at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. She completed her undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Louisville. After completing her masters degree, she accepted her current position in clinical research. She manages the MIRP study in addition to other research responsibilities in the Division of Surgical Oncology. She is a member of the Society of Clinical Research Associates and is currently enrolled in the University of Louisville School of Public Health's Clinical Investigations program.
