2012 M&I Student Awards:

Gunes Dinc, PhD candidate in the lab of Drs. Shirwan and Yolcu, recently  won first place in the Condict Moore Graduate Student Research Award category at the James Brown Cancer Center 2012 Annual Retreat for her poster titled “SA-4-1BBL and MPL as a novel adjuvant system with potent therapeutic efficacy against cancer in the absence of detectable toxicity and autoimmunity.”

 Arin Zirnheld, a M&I PhD candidate in the lab of Dr. Pascale Alard won the "3rd place Doctoral Basic Science Graduate Award" and Gerald “Tad” Dryden, M.D., M&I PhD candidate won the “Faculty - Potential for Major Clinical Application Award,” at Research! Louisville 2012 for their poster presentations.

 Anita Chhabra, a Ph.D. student in the lab of Dr. Michele Kosiewicz presented a poster at the 2012 AAI annual meeting in Boston, MA.   Anita was able to attend and present at the AAI meeting through awards as the second recipient on an AAI Laboratory Travel Grant awarded to Dr. Michele Kosiewicz and with a Research Committee Travel Award through the university.

Ashley Triplett, a Ph.D. graduate in Spring,  2012 in the laboratory of Dr. Jill Suttles, was awarded a "Graduate Dean's Citation Award" at the Spring 2012 Commencement as recognition of her overall excellent performance in our graduate program.

2012 M&I Faculty & Staff Awards

Richard Hansen and Kim Head, both Research Coordinators in the lab of Dr. Jill Suttles were  honored at one of the two staff recognition luncheons by President James Ramsey and other administrators for their years of service to UofL.  Richard Hansen was recognized for 10 years of service and Kimberly Head was recognized for 20.

M&I faculty member, Dr. Richard Miller,  was awarded the Golden Apple Teaching Award by the Class of 2014 at the School of Medicine Fall Honors Convocation.

Several primary and secondary faculty members were recognized at the 2012 Celebration of Faculty Excellence. Drs. Haval Shirwan, Esma Yolcu, Don Demuth, Douglas Taylor, Jun Yan and Suzanne Ildstad were honored for receiving patents, licenses, or options over the past year. Dr. Jun Yan was recognized as a recipient of an endowed professorship.

M&I faculty members, Dr. Uldis Streips(40 years) and Dr. Richard Miller(35 years) were both honored by President James Ramsey and Provost Shirley Willihnganz for their years of service at the annual faculty service awards event on May 9^th.
