Schapmire finds calling in oncology social work
Tara Schapmire, the soon-to-be newest member of the University of Louisville Dept. of Medicine is the 2012 Guy Stevenson Award winner for excellence in scholarship, leadership and other areas within her discipline.
Tara Schapmire will receive her Ph.D. at the doctoral hooding ceremony May 12 from the University of Louisville Raymond A. Kent School of Social Work.
When she takes the stage Saturday morning to address fellow graduates, she will represent the School of Interdisciplinary and Graduate Studies as its Guy Stevenson Award winner for excellence in scholarship, leadership and other areas within her discipline.
Schapmire's scholarship won her two $40,000 grants from the American Cancer Society to study the needs of people who have repeated cycles of cancer diagnosis, treatment and remission.
She will soon join the faculty of University of Louisville’s Department of Medicine as an assistant research professor and part of the Interdisciplinary Program for Palliative Care and Chronic Illness within the U of L Division of General Internal Medicine, Palliative Medicine and Medical Education.
