Five more U of L doctors tabbed by SSCI
Five members of the University of Louisville Department of Medicine faculty were recently accepted into the Southern Society for Clinical Research, an honorary medical specialty society that seeks to promote research, education and faculty development in academia.
That group joins eight other U of L Department of Medicine faculty who were tabbed by the organization earlier in 2010, bringing the overall total number of Louisville SSCI members to 15.
Among the new group who gained appointment are:
-
Dr. Kristine J. Krueger, Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition
-
Dr. Mohamed Saad and Dr. Fidaa Shaib from the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Disorders Medicine
-
Dr. Betty C. Villafuerte of the Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Diabetes
-
Dr. Julio Ramirez, Chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases
The fact that so many U of L doctors have been successfully nominated and accepted by the SSCI is not a shock according to Dr. Jesse Roman, Chairman of the U of L Department of Medicine.
"This is not surprising considering the great talent we have in our faculty," Roman said. "Our department aspires to become the top academic internal medicine department in the region.
"The SSCI represents a perfect venue for faculty and trainees to present their work, engage in educational and advocacy programs, and network with other academicians."
