Once again, the groundbreaking cardiac stem cell research of Roberto Bolli, M.D.,FAHA, is gaining national attention.
WebMd recently published a special report, "Stem Cells: Promise and Peril," exploring cutting edge stem cell research, patients' stories, misplaced hopes, and what the future may hold.
The special report prominently featured Bolli, chief of the University of Louisville Division of Cardiovascular Medicine and director of the Institute for Molecular Cardiology, his SCIPIO study into cardiac stem cells and their ability to repair damaged cardiac tissue, and the two men who are pioneering the treatment.
"I am elated that Mike Jones, Jim Dearing, and the other patients enrolled in the SCIPIO trial have shown such a dramatic improvement in cardiac function," Bolli said. "These results are exciting and could be a revolution in cardiovascular medicine. We are now preparing SCIPIO II, the follow-up study that will test cardiac stem cells in a large multicenter trial."
