Leo G. Horan earned his BS in 1944 and his MD in 1947, both at Tulane University.

He served an internship in Salt Lake City, and then was fellow in medicine and a National Heart Institute trainee in cardiovascular diseases at Tulane.

He taught at Tulane and was chief of the cardiology section at the Veterans Administration Hospital in New Orleans until 1961.

Until 1967, he was associate professor of medicine at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis.

From then until 1973, he was professor of medicine at Medical College of Georgia and chief of medical service at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Augusta. From 1970-1973, he also served as vice-chairman of the department there.

In 1974, he began at the University of Louisville as chairman of the Department of Medicine and chief of medical service at Louisville General Hospital.

He left Louisville in 1983, taught for a year in Virginia and then returned to Medical College of Georgia as professor medicine and associate chief of staff at the veteran’s hospital there.

His many publications are primarily in cardiac electrophysiology, electro-cardiography and body surface potential mapping.
