Health Sciences Center's Medical and Dental Practice Building nearing completion
University of Louisville officials held a "topping-off" ceremony July 11 for the future home of UofL's medical and dental practices.
The facility, under construction on the corner of Preston and Chestnut Streets on UofL's Health Sciences Center Campus, will house a full range of medical practices including obstetrics, gynecology, women's health, internal and family medicine, cardiology, gastro-enterology, kidney disease, radiology, ophthalmology, surgery, neurosurgery, orthopedics, urology, psychiatry and dentistry. The facility will include almost 193,000 square feet of office space, an outpatient surgery center, an imaging center offering a full range of radiological diagnostic testing, a continence center, an optical service and an outpatient rehabilitation center.
"This facility will help our private practice groups steward their resources for the most efficient and effective return on their investment in outstanding patient care," said UofL President James Ramsey.
"This commitment underscores the investment we have made in our faculty - some of the best minds in medicine - whose dedication continues to make a difference to the quality of life in our community and state."
"Patients want a health-care environment that is convenient and well-designed," said Larry Cook, M.D., UofL's executive vice president for health affairs. "This facility will make health-care services convenient for our patients by putting multiple medical specialties and services in one place and providing better communication between doctors and patients."
The facility is a partnership between Landmark Healthcare Facilities LLC, a leading developer of health-care outpatient facilities, University Physicians Associates and UofL Health Care. The building will have eight floors and will cost approximately $40 million to construct.
