Casanova to serve as chairman of study section at NIH

Manuel Casanova, M.D.

UofL faculty member Manuel Casanova, M.D., has been named chairman of the Developmental Brain Disorders Study Section at the National Institutes of Health's Center for Scientific Review.

Casanova, who was invited by the NIH to accept the position, holds the Gottfried and Gisela Kolb Endowed Chair in Outpatient Psychiatry at UofL and is a professor of anatomical sciences and neurobiology.

"Membership on a study section represents a major commitment of professional time and energy as well as a unique opportunity to contribute to the national biomedical research effort," said Toni Scarpa, M.D., Ph.D., director of the Center for Scientific Review at the NIH.

Study section members are selected for participation based on the strength of their scientific and research achievements, according to the NIH.

Casanova, a former lieutenant commander in the U.S. Public Health Service, joined UofL's faculty in 2004.
