About the Leadership
Meet the people who make things happen for the University of Louisville's Internal Medicine Residency Program.
Program Director
► Barbara Casper, M.D., FACP
Barbara Casper, M.D., FACP, graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis, Tennessee. She completed her internal medicine training at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, Chattanooga unit. She subsequently joined the faculty and was the director of the transitional internship program for ten years prior to relocating to the University of Louisville.
Casper joined the faculty at U of L in 1998 and became the program director for the training program in 1999. She has been involved in both resident and medical student education throughout her time here and has been recognized for her efforts by receiving several teaching awards.
"My favorite part of being a program director is being able to see residents come to us right out of medical school and watch them develop into outstanding internists. That transformation is very rewarding and I am very proud of our graduates. I feel that I have hundreds of 'children' scattered throughout the US and I am very grateful that I have had the opportunity to impact their lives."
Associate Program Directors
► Jennifer Koch, M.D.
Jennifer Koch, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the University of Louisville Department of Medicine and serves as Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine Training Program.
She completed medical school and residency training at U of L, and also served as Chief Medical Resident.
Her clinical service includes precepting in the Ambulatory Internal Medicine outpatient clinic.
Dr. Koch is also involved in the medical school in the areas of educational policy, curriculum development, and advising.
"Acting as an advisor to residents is the most rewarding part of what I do. Residency at U of L is hard work but we also have a lot of fun. At the end of three years, our residents are really prepared for whichever career path they choose."
► Nancy Kubiak, M.D.
Nancy Kubiak, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the University of Louisville Department of Medicine and serves as Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine Training Program.
"Even though I have been in a variety of places in my medical career, I love Louisville, its internal medicine program, and my job as a faculty member and associate program director.
"I attended medical school at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, and then completed an internship with the primary care track of the University of Colorado's internal medicine residency in Denver, Colorado. Life changed my plans, though, and I took a year off, married a military officer, and we moved to Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
"I then served as chief resident there before moving to Louisville, and joining the faculty at the University of Louisville. I have been here for over 10 years now, and find my job rewarding and challenging. I have interesting patients, great residents, and wonderful, bright colleagues.
"I am privileged that I get to come to work every day, challenge residents intellectually and have them challenge me, and have fun in the process. I enjoy my job as associate program director, and believe that our residency combines great pathology, appropriate independence for the resident, and a variety of educational experiences along with a systematic mentoring system to help each resident individualize the residency experience and reach his or her full potential."
