Dr. Barbara CasperBarbara Casper, M.D., FACP

As the program director for the Internal Medicine Training Program at the University of Louisville for the past ten years, I have had the pleasure of training many successful residents. The goal of our training program is to provide an outstanding education while recognizing the different goals of each of our residents.

We are very committed to maintaining high academic expectations while providing a supportive environment that allows each of our residents to achieve their career goals.

Our faculty is actively engaged in the education of our residents and represents all subspecialties of medicine in addition to general internal medicine. We have been very successful in placing our graduates in competitive fellowships both at U of L as well as other institutions.

Our residents who choose primary care or hospital medicine are heavily recruited into practices. In addition, our residents have excelled academically as many have been involved in research which has resulted in either national presentations or publication in high quality journals. We are also very proud to report our ninety-seven percent pass rate on the ABIM certifying exam over the past two years.

If you have a chance to explore Louisville, you will find it to be a city that shares the best of the Midwest as well as the south. The people are very friendly and it is extremely affordable. Many of our residents own their own homes and it is not unusual for people to train here and decide they do not want to leave! There are many practice opportunities available in Louisville and it is a very welcoming community.

Please explore our Web site and find out what our program and our city have to offer. I think you will find that we have state of the art facilities coupled with a committed faculty and a unique mentoring system which will help you to be successful regardless of where your future career leads you.

Resident Messages....

I was drawn to the program for a couple of reasons - the numerous fellowship opportunities , the ability to pursue a PhD in physiology, the sense that the current residents were truly happy with the program and the confidence I had the program directors were extremely supportive and committed to providing a top notch education. I must say that after one year, all have been true."

- Jamie Knight, PGY-2 Resident

"I really feel the strength of our program is our program director. I came here because I felt that I would be given the opportunity to learn and grow as an individual. We are given excellent mentorship from our respective team leaders in terms of guidance, support and dealing with the tough times during residency. Moving away from our family in Virginia was a challenge, but the program has never let us down."

- Aisha Zaidi, PGY-3 Resident
