The Insight to Champion Community: Educational Programs
As important as people are to your success, in today’s competitive environment, residents must have access to the latest technology, techniques and information. The University of Louisville achieves this through a broad consortium model of training that brings residents in contact with the community through a broad range of acute care and outpatient settings.
With nearly half of all physicians practicing in the state having earned their degrees at UofL, it is clear that our humanitarian, patient-centered values contribute to communities across Kentucky and the region. Thousands of people are treated annually at UofL’s primary teaching facilities, spanning a highly diverse population of patients receiving care in the numerous programs offered by our clinical departments. As a result, our residents participate in a broad array of treatment strategies and emerge from their experience with the confidence, knowledge and experience to meet almost any professional challenge imaginable.
Currently, the School of Medicine offers more than 50 residency and fellowship programs that meet or exceed the requirements of the ACGME and its inidividual RRCs.
Every Clinical Department offers a residency program.
In addition, the University of Louisville offers programs in:

The Imagination to Pursue the Undiscovered: Research Opportunities
Our mission as an academic medical center is summed up in our motto, “Creating the Knowledge to Heal,” and our investments reflect that commitment. The University of Louisville has added more than 250,000 square feet of state-of-the-art research space in the last three years and is slated to open an additional 280,000 square feet in 2009 with the dedication of the Clinical and Translational Research Building, under construction within a block of University Hospital. When finished, this $143 million building will house more than 625 investigators engaged in clinical and translational research. UofL’s National Institutes of Health funding growth is the fastest in the nation among research universities. Total annual research funding has grown from $28.9 million in 1999 to $101 million in 2007. Federal research funding has increased from $15 million in 1999 to $67.2 million in 2007.
