Hospitals
University of Louisville Hospital serves as the major teaching hospital for University of Louisville students and includes both inpatient and outpatient services. UofL Hospital is the major trauma center in the region and the first Level 1 trauma center in the state.
The Veterans Affairs Medical Center is located approximately 3 miles east of the downtown Medical School campus. It has a capacity of 369 beds with an average daily census of 300 patients and provides over 80,000 ambulatory care visits per year. Members of the professional staff have full faculty appointments in the School of Medicine The VAMC has a large and varied flow of inpatients and outpatients and is approved for over 80 residency positions in medicine, surgery, psychiatry, and most specialties and subspecialities dealing with adult patients.
Jewish Hospital, a private, nonprofit, 466-bed, medical-surgical specialty hospital is located in the Louisville Medical Center one block from the Medical School. Students, interns and residents work with clinical faculty who are faculty members at UofL or in private practice. Jewish Hospital is the site for the solid organ transplantation program at the University. Kidney, heart, lung, liver and pancreas transplants are performed there. Additionally, Jewish Hospital is the home of the University Hand Surgery Team.
Norton Hospital, is a private practice site where many of our patients with gastric and motility disorders are cared for. It is also located in the Louisville Medical Center, one block from the Medical School and University Hospital. Students, interns and residents work with clinical faculty who are faculty members at UofL or in private practice.
