Dr. Luis MarsanoLiver Transplantation

Our multidisciplinary liver group was formed when the University of Louisville, Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and the Jewish Hospital Liver Transplant program joined forces in 2000. This team is internationally recognized for their research into mechanisms of cell injury in liver disease.

Clinical studies are performed in a variety of diseases including hepatitis C, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and alcoholic liver disease. Our noted hepatologists, outstanding transplant surgeons, and devoted RN study coordinators have made us a major regional referral center for cutting-edge patient care and research.

Swallowing and Motility Center

The Swallowing and Motility Center is a major referral center for "state-of-the-art" diagnostic testing, treatment, and clinical research in GI motility disorders.

With our surgeons, we have been implanting gastric electrical stimulators for severe gastroparesis and offer minimal invasive surgery of the esophagus and stomach in the past 13 years. We have the only office-based motility lab in Kentucky, offering high-resolution esophageal manometry for swallowing problem, pH-impedance test for acid and non-acid reflux, SmartPill for wireless GI transit, hydrogen breath for small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, and high-resolution anorectal manometry/compliance for constipation/fecal incontinence.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease Clinic

The Inflammatory Bowel Disease Clinic cares for patients affected with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. We accept new patients and referrals for all types of inflammatory bowel disease. We have extensive experience with the medical management of complex IBD cases. Clinic patients may benefit from enhancements of their current therapy, or obtain access to the newest therapeutic agents through our clinical trials programs.
