Abell joins faculty; Watson, Dryden earn Research!Louisville awards
The division welcomed Dr. Thomas Abell, professor of medicine and new Arthur M. Schoen, M.D., Chair in Gastroenterology in August 2012.
It was a busy spring and summer for members of the University of Louisville Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition.
Highlights for our faculty over that time frame include:

Dr. Craig McClain was named to the National Advisory Council on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA).

Dr. Thomas Abell, perhaps the premier gastric motility physician in the world, was recruited to U of L.

Multiple new grants awarded to researchers, including Dr. Gerald Dryden's two Coulter Foundation grants for device development, Dr. Abell's NIH U01 grant on gastroparesis (transfer), Dr. McClain's NIH U01 grants for alcoholic hepatitis, and five other NIH and Foundation grants to Drs. Matthew Cave, Wekne Feng, Daniell Hill, Kirpich, and Walter Watson.

Dr. Watson received a Research!Louisville faculty award for Scientific Importance. Dr. Dryden received a Research!Louisville faculty award for Potential for Major Clinical Application.

Dr. Dipendra Parajuli, President of the KSGE, coordinated this year’s highly successful KSGE meeting.

Dr. Leila Gobejishvili was an invited speaker at the Gordon Conference in Italy this summer on the topic of phosphodiesterases and liver fibrosis.

Dr. Luis Marsano received the highly prestigious "Condecoración Orden Cayetano Heredia" awarded by Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, Lima, Peru.
