Dr. Karen Krigger Receives the Sister Mary Bennet Cecil Award
On this year's World AIDS day, Dr. Karen Krigger was the recipient of Sister Mary Bennet Cecil Award from the AIDS Interfaith Ministries of Kentuckiana, Inc. Established in 1998, this award is named in honor of Sister Mary Bennet Cecil's courage, commitment, love, faithfulness, and tireless work on behalf of men, women, and children with HIV and AIDS. She offered her life as a confidante, friend, and mentor to those touched by HIV/AIDS. She was one of the founding members of AIM. Sister Mary Bennet Cecil died at Nazareth Home on September 8th, 2006 at the age of 89.
The criteria for nomination of this award include the following:
- Someone who has contributed outstanding service to the care of persons living with HIV/AIDS and their families
- Someone who works for the changes in attitudes of the religious community towards those people who are living with or have families affected by HIV/AIDS
- Someone who works to educate communities at large on the prevention of HIV/AIDS
