Edward C. Halperin is the Dean of the School of Medicine of the University of Louisville, Ford Foundation Professor of Medical Education, and Professor of Radiation Oncology, Pediatrics, and History. Dr. Halperin received a B.S. in Economics from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, an M.D. from Yale University, and an M.A. from The Graduate School of Duke University. He was an intern in internal medicine at Stanford University and a resident in radiation oncology at Harvard Medical School/Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Halperin served on the faculty at Duke University for 23 years where he held endowed chairs in radiation oncology and medical education, and served as chairman of the department of radiation oncology and vice dean of the School of Medicine.
His research focuses on pediatric cancer, adult brain tumors, the role of radiotherapy in organ transplantation, ethics, and the history of racial, religious, and gender discrimination in higher education. He is the co-author/editor of the first through fifth editions of Pediatric Radiation Oncology and the fourth through sixth editions of Principles and Practice of Radiation Oncology and author of over 197 articles in the peer-reviewed scientific, historical, education, and ethics literature.
