Term: The term of office is three years. Members may not serve on other standing committees (excluding Faculty Forum). There are no limits to the number of terms a member may serve.
Membership: This committee consists of eight elected executive faculty. The Director/Associate Dean for Research may serve as an ex-officio, non-voting member. Membership is equally divided between preclinical and clinical departments, with no department having more than one representative. The committee annually elects its own chair from among its members.
Responsibilities: This committee advises the dean as requested concerning research policies and the allocation of research resources. Duties include reviewing and approving research grants, reviewing and approving travel grants, approving summer projects for the medical students Summer Research Scholar Program, assisting in planning Research! Louisville events, nomination of candidates for the President's Outstanding Scholarship, Research, and Creative Activity Award, reviewing letters of intent for periodic extramural requests for proposals, and providing advice and guidance to the vice dean for research on programs and projects that impact the research environment at the School of Medicine.
Meeting Dates: The Research Committee meets quarterly with the dates and times set according to member availability. Time commitment: Meetings generally last 2 hours.
