Performance Criteria and Economic Welfare (PCEW) Committee

Term:  The term of office is four years.  Members may not serve on other standing committees (excluding Faculty Forum).  Members of this committee who have served two full consecutive terms must wait an additional two full terms before being eligible to serve again.

Membership:  This committee consists of eight executive faculty holding the rank of associate professor or professor.  Membership is divided on the basis of 1/4 pre-clinical and 3/4 clinical departments, with no department having more than one representative.  The committee annually elects its own chair from among its members.  The PCEW, at minimum, is required to have one female and one under-represented minority member.  At-large members may be elected and increase the membership of the committee only by the number of positions needed to achieve the composition adjustment (one for gender and/or one for under-represented minority). 

Responsibilities:  The PCEW develops, forwards for approval, and when approved, publishes unit guidelines (School of Medicine Policies for Annual Performance Reviews and Performance-Based Salary Increases) that are the minimum guidelines for preparation of departamental procedures and criteria to review the academic performance of faculty.  The committee is responsible for reviewing and approving the criteria and procedures for awarding performance-based salary incrreases proposed by each department.  The committee shall ensure that the procedures follow the minimum guidelines established by The Redbook, Faculty Senate, and the School of Medicine.  The PCEW is responsible for working with the dean and other administrative officers to protect faculty from gross inequities in salaries and other benefits, in accordance with The Redbook.

Meeting Dates:  This committee meets on an "as needed" basis.  Time commitment:  Two to three meetings, on average, per year with meetings lasting approximately 1 hour.  Allow one additional hour for preparation time.
