About the Division

Mission Statement

The mission of the Division of Dermatology at the University of Louisville School of Medicine is: (A). to provide high quality medical care to patients; (B). to provide education about diseases of the skin, hair, nails, and mucous membranes to our community, medical students, graduate trainees, and practitioners, both non-dermatologist and dermatologists; and, (C). to perform original clinical research that adds to the understanding of diseases of the skin, hair, nails and mucous membranes.

Outline of the Curriculum

Inflammatory skin disease and cutaneous neoplasia comprise 10-15% of all consultatoins requested by general practitioners. Particularly in the inpatient setting, the vast majority of these conditions are categorized as "common" skin disorders. The integument system has a complicated array of primary pathologic proceses and unusual reaction patterns. For this reason, a rotator is well-served by focusing on 20 to 25 common skin diseases and studying them in detail.

Grand Rounds - Division of Dermatology

Grand Rounds are held the 1st and 3rd Tuesday each month. Patient viewing begins at 7:45 a.m. You should encourage your patient to be here by 7:30 a.m. Physicians who are sending patients to Grand Rounds are encouraged to attend. Please go to GRAND ROUNDS SUBMISSION FORM for information pertaining to a patient or patients that you may be sending to us for evaluation.

Visiting Students

To apply for a rotation with the Division of Dermatology, go to www.medicalstudentaffairs.louisville.edu. Click on Visiting Student Clerkships and all the appropriate information can be found for applying for a rotation. If you have problems, your curriculum office at your home school should be able to help you. We also require that you upload a "Personal Statement With Your Application."
